Spit 'n' Polish is owned and run by Jo-Ann Hargreaves, a DBS-checked, fully insured domestic cleaner based in North Leeds. As a sole trader she cleans every home herself, so clients always get the same familiar, accountable person. She covers Whinmoor, Scholes, Crossgates and the surrounding North Leeds areas.

I’ve spent years keeping my own home spotless, and my mum’s too. I’m the sort of person who notices the skirting boards and can’t walk past a smeared mirror. Friends and family started asking if I’d do theirs — and it turns out the thing I’m fussiest about is the thing people most want help with. So I decided to do it properly, and Spit 'n' Polish was born.

I know that letting someone into your home takes trust. That’s why I’m DBS-checked — and I bring it with me to every first visit, so you can check my ID at the door. I’m also fully insured, with £2 million of public liability cover through Simply Business, so you’re protected in the unlikely event anything gets damaged.
Because it’s always me, I learn your home. I’ll remember that you like the cushions just so, that the dog needs the back door kept shut, that you’d rather I didn’t use anything strongly scented. That’s the bit an agency can’t give you.

DBS-checked and fully insured — what that actually means
My DBS check.
A DBS check is a criminal records check carried out by the UK government’s Disclosure and Barring Service. I hold a basic DBS certificate, and I bring it with me to every first visit — so you can see it and check my ID at your own front door before I start. You never have to just take my word for it.
My insurance.
I’m covered by Public Liability insurance up to £2 million, through Simply Business. In plain English: if I ever accidentally damaged something in your home — knocked a vase, marked a wall, broke an appliance — you’re protected, and you’re not left out of pocket. It’s the cover any professional cleaner in your home should have, and I’d be wary of one who didn’t.
Why it matters.
Letting someone into your home is a big deal, especially if you’re not going to be there. These two things are how I prove I take that seriously — not with a slogan, but with a certificate you can hold and cover you can rely on.
