Cleaning FAQs
Everything people usually want to know before booking a cleaner. If your question isn’t here, just call or message me — I’ll always give you a straight answer.
Prices & booking
How much does a cleaner cost per hour in Leeds?
Domestic cleaners in Leeds typically charge between £15 and £20 per hour. Spit 'n' Polish charges £15 per hour with a two-hour minimum, so the smallest booking is £30. The final cost depends on your home’s size, condition and how often you’d like it cleaned.
Is there a minimum booking?
Yes — two hours per visit, so £30 minimum. Travelling to a job and setting up takes time, so anything shorter isn’t practical. Most homes need at least two hours for a proper job anyway. Jo-Ann will estimate the hours your home needs before starting.
How do I get a quote?
Send an enquiry through the website with your address, the service you need and how often, plus details like bedrooms, pets or parking — or just call 07861 592695. Jo-Ann replies personally, usually the same day, with a tailored quote. There’s no obligation and no online payment.
Do I pay online?
No. There’s no online payment and no booking fee. You’ll get a quote first, with no obligation, and payment is arranged directly with Jo-Ann — whatever’s easiest for you. There are no call-out charges or hidden fees.
What's included
What's included in a regular clean?
A regular clean covers floors, surfaces, dusting, bins, kitchens (surfaces, sink, hob, outside of appliances) and bathrooms (toilets, sinks, bath, shower, mirrors), plus skirting boards, doors and staircases. The insides of ovens, fridges and cupboards are part of a deep clean rather than a regular visit.
What's included in an end of tenancy clean?
An end-of-tenancy clean is a top-to-bottom deep clean to help secure your deposit. Spit 'n' Polish cleans inside the oven, fridge and cupboards, descales and sanitises bathrooms, wipes skirting boards, doors and window ledges, and vacuums and mops throughout — leaving the property as clean as you found it.
How long does a deep clean take?
A one-off deep clean usually takes four to eight hours for an average home, depending on its size and condition. Spit 'n' Polish charges £15 an hour with a two-hour minimum, and Jo-Ann will estimate the hours needed upfront once she knows your home’s size and state.
Can I ask for specific things to be done?
Absolutely. Tell Jo-Ann what matters most to you — whether that’s the oven, the skirting boards or a particular room — and she’ll focus there. Because it’s always the same cleaner, she’ll quickly learn how you like your home kept without needing reminding.
Trust & practicalities
Are you insured and DBS-checked?
Yes. Spit 'n' Polish carries Public Liability insurance up to £2 million through Simply Business, and owner Jo-Ann Hargreaves has a basic DBS check that she brings to every first visit — so you can verify her ID at the door before she starts. Learn more about Jo-Ann.
Will it be the same cleaner every time?
Yes, always. Spit 'n' Polish is just Jo-Ann — a sole trader who cleans every home herself. You’ll never get a rotating team or a stranger at the door. She’ll learn your home and how you like things done, which is something an agency simply can’t offer.
Do you bring your own products and equipment?
Yes — Jo-Ann brings everything needed. If you’d rather she used your own products, that’s absolutely fine too. Just say when you enquire — it’s useful to know if you prefer eco-friendly or fragrance-free products, or if anyone in the home has allergies.
Do I need to be home while you clean?
Not at all. Many clients are at work while Jo-Ann cleans and arrange access with a key or key safe. Others prefer to be in. Whatever you’re comfortable with — just let her know what suits you when you book.
What if I have pets?
Pets are no problem at all. Just mention them when you enquire — it’s helpful to know if a dog needs a door kept shut, or if a cat shouldn’t be let out. Jo-Ann will work around them happily.
Which areas do you cover?
Spit 'n' Polish covers Whinmoor (LS14), Scholes (LS15) and Crossgates (LS15), expanding across North and East Leeds to Roundhay, Oakwood, Moortown, Garforth, Kippax, Rothwell, Alwoodley, Adel, Shadwell, Scarcroft and Thorner. See all the areas covered. If you’re nearby but not listed, just ask — new areas are added regularly.
